An LVDT (linear variable differential transformer) is an electromechanical sensor that converts the rectilinear motion of an object into corresponding electrical or voltage signal. LVDT sensors are used to measure displacements and they work on the principle of a transformer in applications such as aerospace, industrial, and others. An LVDT sensor operates on the principle of electromagnetic coupling between the primary and secondary coils that are wound out of phase with each other. LVDT sensors are being used in applications such as deep-sea oil drilling, owing to the lower cost of ownership and excellent performance.
The global LVDT sensors market is expected to grow with a CAGR of 10.04% during the forecast period. The use of LVDT sensors in the industrial sector is rising, owing to its durability and less friction that help in providing accurate measurements of displacements. In addition to this, these sensors can measure movements ranging from a few millimetres to centimetres and can be used in industries such as aerospace & defense and others, where minute measurements are needed. Although these sensors are designed to withstand challenging climatic conditions, high temperature may affect their performance and thus, can hamper their market demand. Moreover, the increasing use of LVDT sensors in electronic systems is expected to propel the market demand during the forecast period.
The LVDT sensor market is segmented on the basis of type, applications, and region. Based on the type, the market is segmented as DC operated LVDT sensors, AC operated LVDT sensors, and digital I/O LVDT sensors. Among these, the AC operated LVDT sensor is expected to witness significant growth during the forecast period due to its increasing use in electronics components, for supplying excitation power. It offers unlimited electrical and mechanical life, less friction, and it can be offered in small packages to fit into compact locations. Based on regions, Asia Pacific is expected to witness higher growth in the LVDT sensor market during the forecast period, owing to the availability of low cost labour for manufacturing in this region.
